Luke Perkins is a British ceramic artist living and working in East London. Luke received a BA in Fine Art from University of the Arts London and has since worked as an assistant to the artist Henry Hudson, and is currently Head Technician at Turning Earth Leyton. He counts his background in sculpture and installation as in dialogue with the historical craft connotations of clay, challenging the visual language of the medium.

"I make vivid sculptural vessels from stoneware clay that seek to exploit the weird nature of clay. I aim to make objects that exist within the in-between. Be that caught between form/function, figurative/abstract, living/inanimate. My work echoes the repetitive, organic structures grown from nature, but also imagines them as the product of similar forces from some far flung alien world. I use colour to bring a sense of joy and naivety into sculptural forms. I hope that my work can act as a opening for the viewer to question the familiar, and teasingly bring them into the world of the strange and liminal."
